Next WSET Level 4 Diploma start in Geisenheim/Germany in September 2020
Malene Smidt Hertz, director of Vinunddannelse and Pepi Schuller MW, director of Austrian Wine Academy have been friends in wine for more than 25 years and have also cooperated sucessfully the first wave of Danish WSET Diploma students to study at Austrian Wine Academy in Rust almost a decade ago.
In August 2020 they agreed now on a formal partnership between Vinunddannelse and Austrian Wine Academy that should facilitate Danish students to study for their WSET Diploma Level 4 at Austrian Wine Academy.
Austrian Wine Academy has developed an international bursary scheme for the WSET Diploma Level 4 program and many wineries, associations, regional and national wine bodies contribute to this.
A minimum of three bursaries of € 1000 each are set aside annually for Vinunddannelse Alumni exclusively but there might be even more bursaries available.
Applicants simply have to register for the Diploma program and submit an essay, see https://weinakademie.at/Diploma_Bursary_Scheme20.pdf
Austrian Wine Academy is offering three different formats of the WSET Diploma Level 4 program in 2020/21:
- The DSI WSET Diploma course INTERNATIONAL with three course blocks between 7-10 days, one in Rust (Austrian Wine Academy), the second between Rust (Austrian Wine Academy) and Vienna (Palais Coburg) and the third in Florence
- The DSE WSET Diploma course CENTRAL EUROPE with five course blocks between 3-7 days in Rust (Austrian Wine Academy)
- The DSC WSET Diploma course RHEINGAU / BURGENLAND / ALTO ADIGE / ZURICH with six course blocks between 2-5 days in Geisenheim (Geisenheim University), Rust (Austrian Wine Academy), Wädenswil (Zurich University, Campus Wädenswil) and Bressanone/Brixen (Kloster Neustift)
These Diploma programs offered by the Austrian Wine Academy are special in many respects: In addition to the Diploma lectures study trips to different wine growing areas in Austria (DSE Diploma course CENTRAL EUROPE) OR in Austria and Italy (DSI Diploma course INTERNATIONAL) OR in Germany, Austria, Alto Adige and Switzerland (DSC Diploma course RHEINGAU / BURGENLAND / ALTO ADIGE / ZURICH) are part of the program and included in the course fee.
Another difference to WSET Diploma courses in other countries is the fact that the graduates of these courses are awarded the prestigious title “Weinakademiker” on completion of an additional thesis and a viva-voce exam. Successful graduates are requested to sign a code of conduct and join the international alumni association “Weinakademiker Club”. This title is very well established in Germanic countries of Europe but to date more than 850 Weinakademiker come from 41 different countries from around the globe.
The next WSET Level 4 Diploma course RHEINGAU / BURGENLAND / ALTO ADIGE / ZURICH will start in Geisenheim (Germany) on 17 September 2020.
